Teleki Square is not in the city's well-known “Jewish quarter” — it is in a different district. The new generation of the Teleki community sets out to uncover the story of the prayer house, and the young realise that the elderly people they interview are the last living members of a once thriving, now lost civilisation.

The square, once the second biggest marketplace in the Hungarian capital, was surrounded by a surprisingly large kosher infrastructure — dozens of prayer houses, cafés, schools and restaurants serving the tens of thousands of Jews who lived and traded there. The interviewees still remember the colourful, thriving life of the 8th district, once home to the second biggest Jewish population in Budapest. In those days, “a Teleki Square Jew” was a well-known notion among Budapest Jews.

Az új nemzedék utánaeredt az imaház történetének. A fiatalok egyszer csak azon kapták magukat, hogy beszélgetőtársaikban egy valaha tündöklő, „letűnt civilizáció” utolsó képviselőire leltek.

Az akkor működő egyik legnagyobb fővárosi piac környékén élő zsidóságot egy meglepően kiterjedt kóser infrastruktúra – pótimaházak, lakásimaházak, iskolák, kávémérések, vendéglők, kisipari üzemek – szolgálta ki. Az interjúalanyok még élénken emlékeztek arra, milyen színes és pezsgő élet folyt a háború előtti Budapest egyik legsűrűbben lakott zsidó kerületében. A „Teleki téri zsidó” szinte fogalom volt a fővárosi zsidó közbeszédben.
